On March 3, 2022, the 3rd Marine Regiment was redesignated to the 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment, marking a departure from the warfighting philosophy of the Global War on Terror. Part of the Corps’ 2030 Force Design modernization efforts, the MLR is being developed to combat near-peer threats — China — in the Indo-Pacific Command. The idea is to have a low-signature, mobile, expeditionary force that can integrate with naval formations and operate in contested maritime areas. For Marines, it means amphibious landings and kicking ass. As per usual.
