How a bird saved a forest, Rolex

In an astounding environmental and social movement, Swiss biologist and ornithologist Anita Studer has spent half her life protecting the rich botanical and biological biodiversity of Brazil, her second home. To date, the 1990 Rolex Awards for Enterprise Laureate has been instrumental in the planting of eight million trees and saving a species of bird from extinction, a reflection of her childhood passion for song birds. Her award brought credibility, allowing the pioneer to pursue the “trilogy” of studying birds, publishing scientific articles and inspiring the locals to reforest their land. Studer’s work to preserve the natural world is a perfect example of Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative.
