Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2020

Updated: Nov 29, 2020

For over three-quarters of a century, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, organized by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) in conjunction with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT), has offered a compelling platform for human achievement, spirit and endeavour; qualities with which Rolex, partners of the race since 2002, has a deep affinity. First held in 1945, this year marks the 76th edition of the famous 628-nautical mile race, which starts in Sydney Harbour on 26 December each year and finishes in Hobart, the capital of the island state of Tasmania. Competition for the race’s main prizes, line honours for the first finisher and, above all, victory on handicap, is always intense. Winning the race overall, and the much coveted Tattersall Cup, affords the victorious crew a permanent place in yachting fame. Sailors are drawn to the scale and unpredictability of the race, the demands on seamanship and the prevailing spirit of camaraderie and adventure.
