Today on Local Legends, we’re headed way down south to try some Texas barbecue… specifically CENTRAL Texas barbecue… more specifically EGYPTIAN central Texas barbecue. After this trip to Austin, I've gotta admit... my new favorite BBQ ain't EAST Texas, SOUTH Texas or even CENTRAL Texas... it's EGYPTIAN TEXAS!
Meet Kareem El-Ghayesh, founder and owner of KGBBQ, an award-winning, James Beard finalist standout barbecue joint in Austin, where he infuses classic Texas bbq dishes with elements of his home country’s cuisine. He makes a mean classic brisket, but it’s hard not to order the whole menu there - you gotta try the lamb bacon and those pomegranate glazed ribs too.
Kareem's story is incredible and inspiring. His personality, drive, and his passion for serving great food is something special to witness... And his dancing... don't get me started on his dancing.
I spent a fantastic few days with Kareem meeting some of his mentors and friends — we went to Kerlache’s, Interstellar, White Buffalo Room for some cowboy shopping, and Donn’s Depot for a two step class. Thank you to Kareem and all of his Local Austin Legends for the love and the southern hospitality, our whole gang had such a special time.
Many thanks to:
