The Battle of Hue City

On Jan. 31, a 70,000-strong force of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong soldiers launched a simultaneous attack against more than 100 military and civilian targets, known as the Tet Offensive.

One such target was Hue, the cultural and religious center of Vietnam, of high strategic value to the US. Unprepared allied forces quickly lost much of the city, and it would take a month of intense house-to-house fighting to reclaim. Hue City was one of the longest and bloodiest battles fought in the Vietnam War.
