Following a fascinating contest characterized by light winds, Magic Carpet Cubed secured line honours at the 2022 Rolex Giraglia. Arriving in Genoa on Thursday 16 June at 22:07:17 CEST, the Wallycento’s elapsed time of 34 hours, seven minutes and 17 seconds was over 19 hours outside of the race record, an indication of the challenging conditions she and the fleet have faced. While the race was slow, it was equally epic with Magic Carpet Cubed securing her third Rolex Giraglia line honours title following a fascinating duel with fellow 100-ft (30.48m) maxi ARCA SGR. Celebrating its 69th edition this year, the historic offshore race has been partnered by Rolex since 1998. An international fleet of 141 yachts are contesting this year’s competition, taking place on a shortened version of the regular 241-nautical mile (446km) course. As the frontrunners crossed the finish line, the majority of the fleet were braced for a second night at sea and on the approach to the Giraglia rock, the mythical symbol of the race located off the northern tip of Corsica.
