2nd Ranger Battalion

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the activation of 2nd Ranger Battalion, one thing is clear: They've come a long way.

From their original activation and baptism of fire and sacrifice on the bloody cliffs of Point Du Hoc to the Korean War to the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols of Vietnam, the Rangers of 2nd Battalion have always been there when our nation needed them most.

In 1974, following then Secretary of the Army, Gen. Creighton Abrams', Charter to establish a Ranger infantry force and charging them to be "better with its hands and weapons than anyone," 2nd Ranger Battalion once again answered the call to serve. And they've led the way for the Army ever since! From Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, to Panama, to countless special operations missions fought in the Global War on Terror, 2nd Ranger Battalion has paved the way for innovation, transformation, and the continued safeguarding and success of our Nation. You've come a long way since 1974, 2nd Batt! But you're not done yet!
